International Women’s Day: The Impact of Women in the Audiovisual Technology Industry

March 6, 2025

This International Women’s Day (March 8th), as we #AccelerateAction towards a more equitable future, IVCi celebrates women who are breaking barriers and empowering change in the professional audiovisual (pro AV) industry and beyond.

Although there has been progress, women remain significantly underrepresented in many technical fields, including the audiovisual industry. According to a recent AVIXA survey, women make up only 13% of the pro AV workforce, with just 5-8% in engineering roles. Despite these challenges, women bring diverse perspectives and skills that drive innovation and improve client satisfaction. Research has shown that gender-diverse teams often excel in collaboration and emotional intelligence, not because women alone bring these qualities, but because balanced representation enhances group dynamics.

Empowering Change: Insights from IVCi’s Women Professionals

We interviewed the remarkable women of IVCi to gain a deeper understanding of women’s impact on the AV industry and why they recommend it to others. By sharing their insights, these professionals are accelerating action, paving the way for future generations, and highlighting the value of women’s contributions to our industry.

Stacey Crevoiserat,

Post Sales Systems Engineer and Drafting Lead

Women bring fresh perspectives to the AV industry, which has been largely influenced by male viewpoints. As more women enter the field and take on critical roles, we are seeing the positive impacts of their creativity and innovation in new technology. Women’s strong leadership skills help drive the industry forward while also bringing a level of empathy that creates more authentic and human experiences for end users.

I was initially drawn to IVCi because of its commitment to client satisfaction and strong focus on excellence. At IVCi, we prioritize cutting-edge technologies, customized solutions, and exceptional client experiences—values I share. Working in this environment has been incredibly rewarding, allowing me to expand my skills, advance my career, and contribute to creating positive client outcomes, which I find truly fulfilling.

I highly recommend the AV industry to other women because it offers significant opportunities for growth and development. There’s an abundance of chances to learn new skills, explore cutting-edge technologies, and witness the real-world impact of your work (as seen in our Project Gallery). The industry is constantly evolving, with new ideas, technologies, and challenges to tackle. It’s an exciting and rewarding field to be part of, and with more women joining every year, now is the perfect time to get involved!

Niki Sitro,

MVE Manager

I had limited knowledge of the AV industry, but my genuine passion for technology led me to it. I was fortunate to be interviewed by two remarkable women who took a chance on me and have since been instrumental in helping me grow in this constantly evolving field.

By entering the AV industry, women play a crucial role in redefining what technology looks like and who it serves. It’s not just about programming or hardware; it’s about shaping how people interact with technology and how it can enhance human experiences in areas like storytelling, education, live events, and corporate environments.

Women often approach problem-solving with a creative and collaborative mindset. In the AV industry, where innovation and team coordination are vital, this ability to bring people together and think outside the box is highly valued. Whether designing soundscapes, creating immersive visual experiences, or managing complex live-event productions, women tend to excel in environments that require both technical expertise and creative collaboration.

Dawn Cagliano,

President

After 18 years here, you might think I’d struggle to remember, but the truth is, I don’t. It’s crystal clear. I was drawn to IVCi because of its unique focus on the end-user experience. While the technology and innovation were certainly attractive, especially since IVCi was pioneering the AV managed services space for some of the world’s most recognized brands, it was the company’s emphasis on the user experience that truly set it apart. At the time, IVCi was the only company talking about user “experience” in such a meaningful way. We even rebranded our managed conferencing services as “Managed Video Experience,” which highlighted how we went beyond just providing technology—we focused on the use case and the ROI that we could help our customers achieve. This approach transformed us from a tech vendor to a trusted partner. I felt, and still feel, that the company’s commitment to quality service and customer-centric solutions aligned perfectly with my own professional values and drive for excellence.

Women have proven time and again that we can excel in any field, and the AV industry is no exception. At its core, the AV industry is all about connection—whether it’s through video conferencing, sound systems, or immersive experiences. Women, historically, have been known for our ability to connect people, create meaningful relationships, and foster communication. In AV, we have the opportunity to bring people together in innovative ways, making a direct impact on how individuals, teams, and organizations collaborate.

I’m honored to be the first female president of IVCi, but I’m also deeply encouraged by the growing number of women who are stepping into leadership roles across the industry. It’s a testament to how far we’ve come and how much potential there is for women to thrive in this field. The AV industry is evolving, and there’s no better time for women to step into this space, lead, and help shape the future of how we connect with each other through technology. It’s a dynamic, creative, and collaborative environment where women’s natural strengths can truly shine. As the industry becomes more inclusive, there’s a real sense of camaraderie and support among women in AV, making it not just a place to advance your career, but a space where you can make a lasting and impactful difference.

Jessica Theirrin,

MVE Customer Account Manager

Eighteen years ago, I was seeking an exciting career in the AV/IT industry when I was casually introduced to IVCi over a dinner with friends. A few months later, I was on my way to New York to join IVCi’s Managed Video Experience team, where I truly found my “home”.

Women bring a unique strength to this field, particularly through their empathy and ability to build strong, lasting relationships with clients. This empathetic approach allows us to truly understand client needs, and by fostering trust and collaboration, we’re able to deliver exceptional customer experiences that go beyond expectations.

I would highly recommend the AV industry to other women because it offers a perfect blend of creativity, technology, and meaningful client interaction. The industry is evolving rapidly, and women are playing a key role in driving innovation while ensuring that customer satisfaction remains at the heart of every solution.

Linda Lentz,

Vice President of Sales Operations

I’ve spent 30 years in video collaboration, starting with work in schools and with content providers nationwide. I witnessed firsthand how audiovisual technology transforms learning, enabling students to take ownership of their education. This experience is universal across various industries and learning communities.

IVCi offers me the opportunity to work with diverse end-users, helping them navigate an ever-evolving technology landscape that enhances engagement, productivity, and ease of use. The AV industry is constantly evolving, providing endless opportunities to learn, share knowledge, and tailor technology solutions to meet clients’ unique needs.

Women bring unique experiences and perspectives, which is exciting and rewarding to see in action. Their contributions play a crucial role in daily interactions, planning, and development, driving the industry forward and delivering positive customer experiences.

Stacey Peterson,
Human Resources Manager

Female representation in a male dominated industry is essential for driving innovation, fostering diverse perspectives, and creating a more inclusive and equitable workforce. When women are represented, that industry evolves to better serve a broader audience, break down systemic barriers, and inspire future generations to pursue their passions without limitations. Diversity isn’t just a metric—it’s a catalyst for progress and lasting change.

I chose to work at IVCi because, here, I have the opportunity to be a role model, an advocate, and a cheerleader for women in the AV industry.

Pamela Intrabartola,

Accounts Payable Specialist

Women are effective communicators and innate multitaskers, skills that significantly enhance our organization’s overall effectiveness. Women should feel empowered to join the AV industry, as they bring new perspectives that can help shape the industry’s future, ensuring it becomes more inclusive and representative.

Pamela McDonnell,
Operations Coordinator

The AV industry is continually expanding, offering numerous opportunities. Despite being predominately male, it features networks and mentorship programs – like WAVIT – that enable women to connect, collaborate, and advance in their careers. The industry benefits significantly from women’s contributions, as they bring a blend of valuable skills, including creativity, diverse perspectives, and innovative approaches.

IVCi is an excellent workplace for women, with a strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration, fostering an environment where everyone works together to achieve shared goals and drive success.
