The new Polycom CX5100 Unified Conference Station delivers enterprise grade video and audio collaboration capabilities in an easy-to-use system that can be plugged into a USB port on a laptop. While the CX5100 is “USB only”, the Polycom CX5500 model is similar to the CX5100, providing the same HD panoramic USB video experience, but also adds a touch screen interface and stand-alone OpenSIP conference phone calling capability. The CX5500 and CX5100 are successors to the Polycom CX5000 HD Unified Conference Station. They retain the unique around-the-table, 360-degree, panoramic experience and deliver more than twice the HD video image quality, double the frame rate for life-like motion handling, and provide Polycom’s HD Voice for the highest quality audio (160Hz-22kHz) while adding a new interface and design and a lockable privacy cap. Active speaker resolution is 1920x1080p (16:9) when used with Skype for Business or Office 365 (Skype for Business Online)
While the CX5000 HD (previous model) included 2 external microphones in the box, additional microphones are now optional with the CX5100. For most room sizes, additional (optional) microphones will not be needed as the microphone range is 20 feet (6 meters) on the CX5100 unit itself. For example, one could place a CX5100 on a 30 foot long conference table and expect every room participant to be clearly heard without the optional microphones.
The CX5100’s user-friendly design makes it easy to launch or join a call directly from the Skype for Business—users simply connect the CX5100 via USB to a PC or Mac laptop that is running Skype for Business. Because it’s easy to use, companies can save on training and IT support costs.
